Abstract

For alto flute (doubling piccolo), harp and viola, duration 18 minutes. This piece is connected with the music-theatre work 'Who put Bella in the wych elm?' (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/1425/), and has three movements, all titled with quotes from the music-theatre piece: 1. waiting for hummingbirds, 2. the scratching twigs, 3. sickle moon. It was commissioned by the Nash Ensemble and premiered on 12 July 2004 at the Cheltenham Music Festival.
