Abstract

Scored for large ensemble: flute (doubling alto flute), clarinet (doubling bass clarinet), horn in F, trumpet in C (doubling piccolo trumpet in A), two violins, two violas, cello and double bass. Duration 12 minutes. Capriccio Spettrale is based on the etchings of the same name by Francisco de Goya. This piece was originally commissioned by Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart, and won the Performing Rights Society Composers Award and the Royal Philharmonic Society Charles Heidsieck Award. It was revised for Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in 2008 with support from the Sound Investment scheme.
