Vecherinka for two pianos (in five hands)

Hesketh, K. (2005) Vecherinka for two pianos (in five hands). [Composition]

Abstract

For two pianos, duration 7 minutes. Based on the party scene from the first act of the composer's opera, The Overcoat (after Gogol). Vecherinka is the Russian word for party or festive gathering, and the five hands of the title refers to games or ‘hands’ of cards which take place during the party. This piece was premiered in January 2006 by the Eaton-Young Piano Duo. An arrangement for six pianos was commissioned by Piano Circus and completed in 2009 (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/1503/).
