Abstract

For mixed sextet: clarinet (Eb doubling Bb bass), horn, piano, violin, viola and violoncello. Duration: 9 minutes. "The title stems from the well-known plague rhyme: / Ring a, ring a roses; / A pocketful of posies, / Ashes, Ashes, all fall down. / This title seemed appropriate when writing the piece – in fact I can’t imagine it having any other, but I’m still not entirely sure why. It's dedicated to my friend and tutor, Tony Gilbert on his 60th birthday and to his partner Raymonde Sassoon, with much affection."" - Simon Holt. Originally composed in 1994; revised in 2008. Published on the 28th of January 2015.
