Abstract

For chamber orchestra, duration 6 minutes. Notte Oscura is essentially the first orchestral interlude from the composer's opera The Overcoat (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/1478/). Originally completed in 2002, it was revised in 2004 and premiered on 30 April 2004 by the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt conducted by Christoph Mueller. A recording is available on SoundCloud (see the 'Play on SoundCloud' link on the audio tab below) by SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden conducted by Christoph Mathias Mueller. An arrangement for solo piano is also available (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/1500/), which has been recorded by Clare Hammond (BIS-2193 SACD): https://bis.se/label/bis/kenneth-hesketh-horae-pro-clara.
