Abstract

Tragi-comic opera in four acts, libretto by Amanda Holden after the play by Sean O'Casey, duration 120 minutes. This work was co-commissioned by English National Opera and Dallas Opera with funds provided by the Arts Council of England. It was premiered on 16 February 2000 at the London Coliseum Theatre by English National Opera conducted by Paul Daniel, with Gerald Finley (baritone); Sarah Connolly (soprano); Vivien Tierney (soprano) David Kempster (baritone); Leslie John Flanagan (bass-baritone); Mary Hegarty (soprano); Anne Howells (mezzo-soprano); John Graham-Hall (tenor); and Mark Le Brocq (tenor). The Silver Tassie won the South Bank Show Award and the Oliver Award for Opera, and was shown on BBC2 on 30 April 2000.
