Abstract

Double concerto for two trumpets and orchestra, duration 20 minutes, after a painting by Heather Betts. This work was commissioned by the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Eastern Orchestral Board with financial assistance from the Arts Council of England. It was first performed on 29 October 1995 by Håkan Hardenberger and John Wallace (solo trumpets) with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding at the Corn Exchange, Bedford. It has since been performed in Japan, Australia and the USA, with the most recent performance given in Munich in 2019 by soloists Philip Cobb and Gábor Tarkövi, with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Simon Rattle.
