Abstract

For mezzo-soprano, tenor and ensemble, text by Jonathan Moore and Mark-Anthony Turnage after Steven Berkoff. Greek Suite summarises the main events of Turnage's first opera, Greek (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/2003/) in a four movement work. It was commissioned by the Alte Oper, Frankfurt, for Ensemble Modern, the group of German musicians who played for the first performance of Greek in Munich. Greek Suite was premiered on 30 March 1989 conducted by Kaspar de Roo, with Mike Henry as Eddy and Fiona Kimm as Wife.
