Driver, D. and Trusler, M. (2017) Erik Chisholm: Violin Concerto & Dance Suite. [Audio]

Abstract

Music by Erik Chisholm (1904-1965) performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins, with soloists Matthew Trusler (violin) and Danny Driver (piano): Violin Concerto; Song of the mavis (Prelude 9 from From the True Edge of the Great World); Ossianic lay (Prelude 1 from From the True Edge of the Great World); Port a beul (Prelude 8 from From the True Edge of the Great World); Dance Suite for orchestra and piano. A bracing excursion to the Indian subcontinent via the Scottish Highlands: the compelling force of Scottish Modernism that is Erik Chisholm makes a welcome reappearance on Hyperion. Matthew Trusler and Danny Driver are the committed soloists in the two large-scale concertante works.
