Abstract

For alto voice and large ensemble, duration 14 minutes. This piece was commissioned by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group with financial assistance from West Midlands Arts and the BCMG's Sound Investment Scheme. It was first performed on 3 November 2002 by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. 'Boots of Lead' forms Part 3 of the cycle 'A ribbon of time' which takes the poetry of Emily Dickinson as its starting point.
