This piece was commissioned by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group with financial assistance from West Midlands Arts and the BCMG's Sound Investment Scheme. It was first performed on 3 November 2002 by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
