For vocal soloists (two sopranos, mezzo soprano, tenor, baritone, and bass) and chamber ensemble, duration 13 minutes. A setting of 'Romance de la pena negra' (Ballad of the black sorrow) by Federico García Lorca, this piece was commissioned by the London Sinfonietta for its 20th anniversary season.
