Abstract

For chamber ensemble, duration 19 minutes. Theatrum forms the third work in a trilogy for chamber ensemble entitled TRINITA, the other pieces being Circling Canopy of Night (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/204/) and Torturous Instruments (see https://researchonline.rcm.ac.uk/id/eprint/1488/). This piece was commissioned by the Tanglewood Music Centre with assistance given by the Fromm Foundation at Harvard. Originally completed in 1996, it was revised in 1999 and 2002. Theatrum was first performed on 1 April 1999 by the London Sinfonietta conducted by Martyn Brabbins. The SoundCloud recording linked below is by the London Sinfonietta conducted by Oliver Knussen.
