Abstract

For chamber orchestra, duration 17 minutes. This piece was commissioned by the Michael Vyner Trust for the London Sinfonietta, for Oliver Knussen on his 50th Birthday. It was premiered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, on 30 May 2006, and has since been performed by the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Oberlin Conservatory Contemporary Music Ensemble. The SoundCloud recording (see the 'Play on SoundCloud' link on the audio tab below) is by the London Sinfonietta conducted by Oliver Knussen. 'Detail from the record' is part of a larger work for Japanese puppet theatre: The Record of Ancient Matters.
