Turnage, M.-A. (1996) Blood on the floor. [Composition]
Abstract
For four jazz soloists and large ensemble, duration 80 minutes: I) Blood on the Floor (Prologue); II) Junior Addict; III) Shout; IV) Sweet and Decay; V) Needles; VI) Elegy for Andy; VII) Cut Up; VIII) Crackdown; IX) Dispelling the Fear. This work was co-commissioned by Ensemble Modern, the South Bank Centre for the Royal Festival Hall, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Wien and supported by the Siemens Kulturprogramm and the British Council. The completed work was first performed on 30 May 1996 by John Scofield (electric guitar), Peter Erskine (drum kit), Martin Robertson (saxophones) and Ensemble Modern conducted by Peter Rundel.
