Abstract
For orchestra, duration 10 minutes. This piece was commissioned by the BBC for the opening concert of the Symphony Hall, Birmingham on 12 June 1991, where it was performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Simon Rattle. Orchestras who have since performed this work include the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Creative Jazz Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Hertfordshire Philharmonica, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Ural State Philharmonic Orchestra.
