Abstract
For large orchestra, duration 15 minutes. This work was commissioned by the Feeney Trust for Simon Rattle and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. It was premiered on 5 October 1989 by the CBSO conducted by Simon Rattle at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and has since been performed by major orchestras all over the world. Two recordings are available: by the CBSO conducted by Simon Rattle (see https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/7996180--british-composers-a-celebration), and by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Donald Runnicles (see https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/7960452--rule-britannia).
