Abstract

For organ, duration c.7.5 minutes. Written to mark the installation in 2017/18 of the new Flentrop organ in the Royal College of Music's Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Rond is a celebration and a re-imagining of the techniques of those seventeenth century English musicians, such as William Lawes and, especially, Matthew Locke whose work can combine harmonic ingenuity with abrasive and relentless contrapuntal rigour, and is thick with all manner of tonal ambiguity and false relation. © William Mival 2019.
