Abstract
Flute sonatas by Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773) edited by Rachel Brown, with realisation of the figured bass by Terence Charlston. This volume includes: Sonata in B minor, No. 267, QV 1:169; Sonata in E-flat major, No. 348, QV 1:54; Sonata in B minor, No. 231, QV 1:168; Sonata in G minor, No. 336, QV 1:126; Sonata in A major, No. 351, QV 1:143; Sonata in F major, No. 356, QV 1:82. This Urtext edition also includes two flute and figured bass scores - essential for ornamentation; performance notes by Rachel Brown; facsimile reproductions of original manuscripts. These exhilarating works were composed for Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, and have remained in his private collection, largely unkown, since the eighteenth century. Now published for the first time, these choicest pieces may, at last, assume their rightful position in the core flute repertoire. The ISMN for this edition is 979-0-9002207-1-4.
