Abstract
Music by Beach, Chaminade and Howell performed by Danny Driver (piano) and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with Rebecca Miller (conductor): Piano Concerto in D minor by Dorothy Howell (1898-1982); Piano Concerto in C sharp minor Op 45 by Amy Beach (1867-1944); Concertstück in C sharp minor Op 40 by Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944). International Women’s Day falls on 8 March, celebrating the ‘social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women’. Volume 70 in our Romantic Piano Concerto series champions three female composers, and three works whose in-the-face-of-it-all joie de vivre makes them irresistibly worthy of our attention.
